Meta just dropped a new tool called Business Agent, and it’s designed to let brands run customer support and even complete sales inside Instagram, Messenger, and soon WhatsApp. No human agent required. It’s basically agentic AI dropped straight into the middle of social commerce. The software handles tickets and processes transactions on its own, so retail brands can keep conversational commerce running 24/7 without hiring a call center.

The interesting part is how native this feels. Instead of having to build their own chatbot or link to clunky third party tools, brands get these workflows baked directly into Meta’s messaging apps. Instagram and Messenger already have access. WhatsApp integration is on the way. That means the same place where people scroll memes and shop drops is now also where they can ask for a refund or check an order status, all managed by an AI that never sleeps.

This isn’t just a small upgrade. It shifts the center of gravity for social commerce from passive ads to active, automated conversations. Instead of just clicking a link to buy, customers can ask questions, get help, and complete a purchase in the same thread. For global brands with high volume, that could mean faster resolutions and fewer dropped conversations.

We’ve seen plenty of AI customer service tools, but putting them directly inside the apps people already use for shopping is a smart move. It removes friction. The real test will be how smoothly these agents handle edge cases or frustrated customers. If Meta gets that right, Business Agent might make human support feel like a thing of the past for routine stuff. And that changes the whole game for how we shop on social platforms.
